In this data dive we will explore the publicly available NYPD database of almost a decade’s worth of police stops, frisks, and searches. We will begin with a short talk that briefly introduces the dataset and its attributes. Participants will then work together to use the data to understand a series of questions. We will primarily use R for this data dive, although participants are welcome to use any analysis tools of their choice. No prior knowledge of R is assumed (although any familiarity is helpful), and those participants who use RStudio should have it installed on their computer.
