Opportunities for Venture Development Support for NYU Faculty, PhDs and Researchers

Abstract: In this session, learn about the myriad resources at NYU to help explore the commercial potential of your research through new venture creation. Resources presented will include grants support, financing, venture coaching, training programs, and community building activities. The session will be led by the team at the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute (Office of the Provost), which supports over 80 new ventures per year led by NYU faculty, PhDs and Post-doc researchers.

Rebecca Silver is the Associate Director of the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute (NYU Office of the Provost), where she leads operations and major programs, including the NYU Summer Launchpad accelerator, Startup Sprints, and Deep Technology founders’ programs. Before NYU, Rebecca was an innovation and sustainability consultant working to build startup ecosystems and spur sustainability innovation in consumer goods, technology and healthcare. Rebecca’s past clients include NGOs and major brands including Adidas, Walmart, Merck, Sanofi, Natural Resources Defense Council, Environmental Defense Fund, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Prior to this work, Rebecca was an industrial designer and leader in the New York City sustainable design community. For the past eight years, Rebecca has taught entrepreneurship, design and sustainability at Columbia University, the School of Visual Arts, and Parsons the New School for Design. In addition to her role at NYU, Rebecca is a mentor and instructor for several technology commercialization accelerators including the Columbia IBM Blockchain Accelerator, Cyber NYC, and PowerBridgeNY. Rebecca holds an MBA and MS in Environmental Science from the University of Michigan, and a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design.
