Please join us in Downtown Brooklyn for our weekly research series on Wednesday, November 11 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm featuring Dr. Benedetto Piccoli, Visiting CUSP Faculty and Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Rutgers University and Director of the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology.

Topic: Crowd dynamics and vehicular traffic: mathematical modeling

Abstract: Dr. Piccoli will briefly recapitulate recent efforts in modeling of crowd dynamics. In particular we illustrate new models based on measure theory, which proved to be effective in qualitative representation of crowd self-organization phenomena. Then he’ll turn to more established models for vehicular traffic and illustrate new challenges: control by speed limits, moving bottlenecks and fuels consumption estimation.
