Biography

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Charlie received his B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley before joining Google as an advertising and analytics strategist. At clean-tech startup Enervee in Los Angeles, he helped deploy the world’s first energy-smart data and commerce platform for forward-thinking utilities in the US and abroad. Prior to CUSP, Charlie spent the summer researching algorithmic accountability under the Chief Data Officer for the City and County of San Francisco.

GRADUATE STUDENT INTERN, MAYOR’S OFFICE OF THE CHIEF DATA OFFICER. CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO
  • Developed standards and toolkit to guide departments in providing limited access to sensitive datasets
  • Initiated framework for jurisdictions to increase accountability and transparency in deploying algorithms
  • Authored data visualization of Mayor’s 2017-18 budget
