Meet Our Inaugural ClassRavi Shroff

Ravi received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Washington in 2005, followed by a Masters of Science and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, in 2009 and 2011, respectively. After working as a research mathematician for several years, he decided to switch into a more applied discipline and joined the Master’s program in Urban Informatics at CUSP.

During his time at CUSP, Ravi specialized in big data and information visualization. Additionally, he worked as an intern at Microsoft Research and examined New York City’s stop-and-frisk program. With some fellow students, he also examined the allocation of children to pre-Kindergarten programs as a result of Mayor de Blasio’s push for universal free pre-K education.

After graduating, Ravi decided to join CUSP as a full-time research scientist, where he will continue his research in applying machine learning techniques to social data and mathematical techniques to social science.
