Meet Our Inaugural ClassLing Zhou
Ling graduated from the Science and Technology University of Beijing with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design. As a user experience consultant in Beijing, she focused on designing mobile apps and other Internet products. During that time, she also learned user research methods and to appreciate how useful data analytics can be for inspiring her design concepts. Ling has always been interested in exploring opportunities that intersect design with improving people’s life experiences. Thus, she joined CUSP to acquire skills in urban science with an aim to utilize her user experience design knowledge in solving these issues.
At CUSP, Ling has learned to use data analytics in an urban domain. She has also gained an understanding of how data scientists apply their expertise in various urban topics in a more comprehensive way. Ling focused her research interest on urban energy consumption. Her final project this summer was analyzing informative features and patterns of data as part of a program driven by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to help residents in the state achieve energy efficiency.
After graduating from CUSP, Ling would like to find a job related to policy or decision making in either a consulting company or New York City agency. She hopes to do some innovative work by merging her background in data analytics and user experience to address urban issues and hopefully make contributions to promoting Smart City programs in China.
