Meet Our Inaugural ClassHyunsoo Jeong

Hyunsoo graduated from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and then received his M.B.A. from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Professionally, Hyunsoo worked for a number of high profile companies such as PWC and Towers Watson. During his time with those companies, Hyunsoo realized that finding meaningful patterns in large volumes of data through data analytics will play a pivotal role in making business decisions, and that a number of new business opportunities would become available in urban domains because of the difficulty of the problems faced by cities around the world.

As a member of the inaugural class at CUSP, Hyunsoo worked on analyzing building energy data to enhance energy use efficiency through his research and internship at the Mayor’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability. For his final research project, Hyunsoo applied various unsupervised learning techniques with datasets provided by CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm.

Immediately after graduation, Hyunsoo joined a degree program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to apply predictive analytics to the manufacturing process along with studying systems thinking, engineering systems, and product manufacturing. He is also looking for a chance to launch a startup that would use the in-depth domain knowledge of urban informatics he acquired at CUSP.
